War Horse Review

Released on Christmas day, War Horse is Steven Spielberg's new epic film about a boy whose father purchased an expensive racehorse to work as a plow horse on the family farm in WWI England. The boy trains the horse to do the impossible and manages to plow the entire field with this dainty horse, Joey. When the family can no longer afford to keep paying the rent because of a bad farming season, the boy's father sells Joey to the military, sending him off on a journey that takes him through countless hands, countries, and all sides of the war. Sounds glorious, eh? Not so fast.

The Artist Review

The very idea of a silent movie being released in 2011 is enough to turn heads. In a generation desensitized to CGI explosions, Oscar-bait, and Katherine Heigl romantic comedies, it's rather easy for most people to completely ignore The Artist, a silent movie. For a film that primarily pays homage to a dead genre, The Artist proves a delightful comedy/drama that shows captivating and highly entertaining performances by French actors Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo.

Young Adult Review

For future reference: Hampton Inn allows small pets, Mavis Gary (Charlize Theron) is quite serious in her claim as an alcoholic, and Matt Freehauf (Patton Oswalt) has much more than Mos Eisley moonshine to offer. No worries, I haven't revealed anything major in the first sentence of this review; these tenets of evolving, quirky characters make Young Adult worth a shot, but trouble lies in an absent, overarching character arc. Here's a chance to explain.
